Being booed and jeered by woke malcontent royalists at a jubilee event for the Queen must have been upsetting for you, given that you wanted to be King of the World since prep school and there are many who think you have completely screwed up the much lesser job of UK prime minister. But it’s important to remember that the average person doesn’t appreciate your efforts — the average person by definition knows an average amount.
How many prime ministers would have taken such a great professional risk and attended parties during lockdown, while even Her Majesty the Queen wasn’t allowed the comfort of even one person beside her as she buried her husband of 74 years? Probably none — and that’s just one of the things that makes you so very special.
You didn’t let yourself get caught up in the mundane morality of doing what you had repeatedly ordered the plebs to do and obey laws you introduced to curtail the spread of a devastating and easily transmitted disease. No, you recognised what any great powerful superior person (such as Imelda Marcos, Rodrigo Duterte, Thatcher’s chum Pinochet, Trump or Idi Amin) would recognise — that laws and morality are for the little people and not for the likes of you.
